The Last Prophet of Islam

Before I heard this question (and its answer) I'd have thought that Muhammad was the first prophet of Islam. But I'd have been wrong.

According to Orphans in Need.org.uk, "Allah (SWT) selected 25 prophets to spread His messages." The first prophet was Adam, and the second was his son Seth. They were followed by Idris (known in the Bible as Enoch) and Nuh (Noah). Most of the prophets are recognisable from the Bible, albeit with slightly different names; for example Ibrahim (Abraham), Lut (Lot), Yusuf (Joseph) and Dawud (David).

Muhammad was the 25th and last prophet. "He was sent by Allah (SWT) to confirm the teachings of the prophets before him, and he is often regarded as the father of Islam. Muhammad (PBUH) recited the exact words of Allah (SWT) in the form of the Qur'an and the Angel Jibril revealed to him Allah's (SWT) teachings over the course of 23 years."

(SWT stands for the Arabic phrase Subhanahu wa ta'ala, which translates as 'Glory to Him, the Exalted' or 'Glorious and Exalted Is He'. PBUH stands for Peace Be Upon Him.)
